The Art of Assemblage

Assemblage is like collage, but with three dimensions.  Assemblage is the perfect art form for the recycling artist.  It allows you to use up all those scraps of fabric and paper, found objects and ephemera you like to save up like a magpie.

Assemblage has its roots in modern art.  Just look to Marcel Duchamp, Joseph Cornell, Robert Rauschenberg, Jasper Johns or Louise Nevelson for inspiration.  Assemblage can be loose and naive in style like Rauschenberg's cardboard works, or finely crafted and richly detailed like Joseph Cornell's aviary shadowboxes.
